The Director of Engineering role exists to ensure Revive’s technology scales with discipline, quality, and intention. This role owns the technical backbone of the company: architecture, APIs, backend systems, data flows, and the standards that govern how software is built and shipped. This is a role for a deeply technical leader who stays close to the code, makes hard architectural decisions, and builds systems and teams that move fast without breaking trust.

What you will do
  • Own the overall technical architecture of Revive’s platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability
  • Set and uphold engineering standards across frontend, backend, APIs, and data systems
  • Make high-impact technical decisions around system design, service boundaries, data models, and integrations
  • Maintain deep familiarity with the existing codebase and actively contribute where appropriate
  • Own the design and evolution of APIs and backend services that support multiple products and workflows
  • Establish and enforce a high bar for code quality, testing, documentation, and production readiness
  • Review complex pull requests and architectural changes, providing clear and constructive technical guidance
  • Own the development and deployment pipeline, including CI/CD, environments, and release processes
  • Ensure production systems are stable, observable, and resilient through monitoring, logging, and alerting
  • Lead incident response and post-mortems with a focus on root-cause analysis and systemic improvement
  • Balance speed and reliability by setting clear expectations for delivery and technical risk
  • Lead, mentor, and develop senior engineers and engineering managers
  • Drive hiring, onboarding, and technical evaluation to build a high-ownership engineering team
  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Data, and Operations to translate business priorities into technical execution
  • Ensure engineering systems support accurate data collection, analytics, and reporting
  • Use metrics and insights to inform architectural decisions, prioritization, and capacity planning
  • Identify and proactively address technical debt and long-term scalability risks
Who you are
  • A senior engineering leader who is hands-on, opinionated, and pragmatic
  • Someone who thinks in systems and anticipates second- and third-order effects of technical decisions
  • Comfortable making hard tradeoffs between speed, quality, and long-term maintainability
  • A clear communicator who can explain complex technical concepts to non-technical partners
  • Calm under pressure, especially when systems break or priorities shift
  • Deeply invested in code quality, developer experience, and operational excellence
  • Motivated by building durable systems and strong teams, not just shipping features
Qualifications
  • 8–12+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • 3+ years in an engineering leadership role (Director, Senior Manager, or equivalent)
  • Strong hands-on experience with JavaScript / TypeScript in production environments
  • Deep experience with Node.js, Express, and backend service architecture
  • Strong familiarity with React, Next.js, and modern frontend architectures
  • Proven experience designing and maintaining APIs and data-driven systems
  • Experience owning production systems, including deployments, monitoring, and incident response
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and modern deployment practices
  • Experience leading code reviews, setting engineering standards, and managing technical debt
