Your Opportunity

At PLACE, we're building a category-defining company at the intersection of real estate, technology, business services, and the consumer. As a profitable, hypergrowth startup on the path to an IPO, our standards are high, our team is scrappy, and our commitment is to execute the best work of our lives.

This is YOUR CHANCE to own a consequential client-facing role in Maxwell Diligence – the business that powers quality control and due diligence for some of the most sophisticated investors and institutions on Wall Street. As our Executive Director of Diligence, you'll partner with Maxwell Chief Lending Officer Jim Smith to lead client relationships, deliver final diligence outcomes, and serve as the authoritative voice of Maxwell Diligence with the institutions that move markets. You'll be the point of the sphere – the primary point of contact who elite clients like the JP Morgans of the world trust, rely on, and call first. If you thrive in complexity, high-stakes institutional relationships, and believe in scaling through tech and AI, this is your PLACE.

Who Develops You: Jim Smith, Chief Lending Officer, Maxwell

What You're Great At

You are a seasoned diligence professional who has spent a decade earning your reputation in one of the most demanding corners of the mortgage capital markets. You've sat across the table from Wall Street's biggest investors and delivered results. You know the difference between a good reliance letter and a great one – and you've both reviewed and written enough of them to have a point of view.

You are the person clients request by name. Your relationships are your currency, and you've spent years protecting them. You understand securitization inside and out – the SEC requirements, the rating agency guidelines, the documentation that makes or breaks a deal. You've worked in LoanMac or a comparable diligence platform and you move through it like a native.

You don't watch the clock. You bring calm to high-pressure situations, command to client calls, and precision to every final review that goes out the door. You are equally comfortable diving into a transaction file and presenting findings to an institutional client's C-suite. You are, at your core, a builder of trust – and that's what this role demands.

What You'll Do

  • Own the client relationship end-to-end, serving as the primary point of contact for institutional investor clients including top-tier Wall Street firms, managing all communication, escalations, and relationship health across the full diligence lifecycle
  • Deliver final review and sign-off on diligence results for loan portfolios before outcomes are presented to clients
  • Lead securitization compliance ensuring all diligence deliverables meet SEC reporting requirements and rating agency standards for approved trades
  • Author and manage reliance letters taking ownership of the accuracy, timeliness, and institutional acceptance of reliance letters across all client engagements
  • Interface directly with rating agencies serving as Maxwell Diligence's primary liaison to rating agencies, maintaining strong relationships and ensuring continued approval across all five major agencies
  • Support transaction management, rolling up your sleeves and contribute to deal execution when trades demand it, working alongside the diligence team to hit SLAs
  • Represent Maxwell Diligence externally as the face of the business with institutional clients, building the kind of trusted, long-term relationships that generate repeat business and referrals
  • Partner with leadership to shape the strategy, capabilities, and market positioning of Maxwell Diligence as the business scales

What You Bring

  • 10+ years of experience in mortgage due diligence, quality control, or capital markets diligence operations
  • Deep, established relationships with Wall Street institutional investors and a reputation that precedes you in the space
  • Hands-on experience with Lauramac or equivalent third-party review platforms
  • Demonstrated expertise in securitization requirements, SEC compliance, and rating agency guidelines
  • Extensive experience authoring and delivering reliance letters accepted by major institutional investors
  • Proven track record managing high-volume, time-sensitive diligence engagements with elite clients
  • A high tolerance and genuine appetite for demanding hours and fast-moving deal cycles
  • Exceptional communication and presence, equally effective in client calls, written deliverables, and executive settings

Compensation: $175,000 to $180,000/year
