We are currently seeking an Underwriter to join our client operations team. This role is responsible for reviewing client files for accuracy and completeness, evaluating credit risk, quality assurance of property valuations, and overall client financial data integrity. This individual will need the ability to possess a strong work ethic, excellent organizational skills, and a detail oriented aptitude.

Where you will make an impact:

  • Evaluate client applications and documentation
  • Assess overall client risk using manual underwriting analysis based on internal guidelines, generally accepted consumer lending income calculations, consumer credit report review and asset documentation provided
  • Assess property valuation risk using a comparable sale analysis from publicly available market data
  • Evaluate clients ability to succeed in the Landis Homeownership Program, using knowledge of mortgage agency (FHA, FNMA, VA, USDA) guidelines
  • Communicate with internal and external partners effectively to to answer any questions and resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Issue risk decisions within signing authority and prepare statements of risk analysis for exception when warranted
  • Quality Control and Assurance reviews of previously closed flies on a monthly basis
  • Contribute to and/or lead training sessions to share your knowledge and expertise in the mortgage and lending industry with other teams in the company
  • Participate in additional projects across Credit Risk, Property Risk and the broader company as needed

Your experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience with a mortgage lender, broker or bank in a Loan Operations role
  • 3+ years of residential mortgage underwriting, FHA experience a plus
  • Familiarity with mortgage agency guidelines and documentation requirements (FHA, VA, USDA, FNMA, FHLMC)
  • Ability to carry out requisite qualification calculations (all income types, income ratios, residual income, LTV and MIP)
  • You can read and understand credit reports and applications with high proficiency
  • Sound understanding of real estate appraisal concepts
  • Outstanding communication and teamwork skills
  • Impeccable organizational skills, tech-savvy
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

Note: This role is remote with travel to HQ on a quarterly basis. If living within commuting distance to NYC, hybrid attendance in the office is required. This is a full-time role, which is required to regularly work a weekend schedule to cover sales and client demands as needed, schedule is flexible.

We are offering a base salary of $75k - $85k based on relevant work experience along with bonus potential that is paid yearly and equity in the company.
